Frequently Asked Questions

At what age does the pre-school accept children?

We welcome children from the age of 2 years.

Are you open all year round?

We are a term-time pre-school. You can view our term dates here (link).

What are your hours of operation?

Monday to Friday:

Morning session: 9.30am – 12.30pm

Optional lunch club: 12.30pm – 1.00pm

Tuesday to Thursday:

Afternoon session: 1.00pm – 4.00pm

From September 2025:

Monday to Friday: 9.00am – 4.00pm

What is the minimum number of sessions my child can attend?

There is no set minimum, but based on our experience, we gently recommend 2 to 3 sessions per week to help children settle in, build confidence, and establish a sense of routine. Regular attendance allows children to form secure relationships and feel happy and comfortable in our setting.

As a guide:

• For children aged 2 to 3 years: around three sessions per week.

• For children aged 3 to 5 years: many families choose five sessions (mornings, afternoons, or three full days).

We’re always happy to discuss the options and work together to find a schedule that works best for your child and your family.

Can my child start attending halfway through a school term?

Yes, depending on availability.

Do you accept short-term enrolments?

Depending on availability, we may be able to offer short-term arrangements with advance notice.

Do children play outside every day?

Yes. Outdoor play is an important part of each child’s development. Children go outside daily, whatever the weather. When possible, we operate free-flow access between the classroom and garden.

For how long can my child stay at Seedlings Montessori?

We welcome children from 2 years old up until they turn 5. If you decide to delay Reception, your child may remain with us until their fifth birthday.

What time is lunch?

Lunch takes place between 12.30pm – 1.00pm.

Can my child stay for lunch if they only attend morning sessions?

Yes. You can add lunch club to your child’s morning session and collect them at 1.00pm, for a charge of £6.00 per session.

Does your pre-school provide lunch?

We do not provide catered lunches. Parents are asked to send a healthy, nut-free packed lunch. We encourage sugar-free, nutritious choices.

What snack do you provide during the day?

We offer milk, fresh fruits, vegetables, toast, and rice or corn cakes. Children often help prepare snacks themselves. Filtered water is available at all times. Occasionally, children enjoy cooking activities with their teachers and share the food they’ve prepared with great pride.

What if my child has allergies?

We cater for all allergies with prior notice and work closely with parents to ensure each child’s safety.

Can my child nap at pre-school?

We do not have a designated nap area or scheduled nap time, as most children attending full-day sessions have naturally outgrown naps. However, if a child becomes tired, we can provide a cosy rest area with cushions and a blanket in the book corner.

Does my child need to be potty trained before starting?

No. Children do not need to be potty trained before joining us. We believe every child develops at their own pace. When your child is ready, we will work closely with you to support their potty training journey with care, guidance, and consistency.

Do you offer government funding?

Yes. We offer funding for both 2-year-olds and 3 & 4-year-olds:

2-Year-Old Funding:

Some 2-year-olds may be eligible for government-funded childcare, depending on family circumstances or income. Funding may also be available for working parents of 2-year-olds under the new entitlement. If eligible, your child can receive up to 15 funded hours per week, starting the term after their second birthday. You can check your eligibility and apply via your local authority or through www.childcarechoices.gov.uk. We’re also happy to guide you through the process if you have any questions.

15 Hours Funding for 3 & 4-Year-Olds (Universal Entitlement):

All children are eligible from the term after their third birthday. Seedlings Montessori will handle the application on your behalf and deduct the funding from your termly fees.

30 Hours Funding for 3 & 4-Year-Olds (Working Parents):

An additional 15 hours may be available for working parents, subject to eligibility. You can check your eligibility and apply here: https://www.gov.uk/get-free-childcare-if-youre-working.
